Three days after their beloved goalie Mia Hamant died of kidney cancer, the Husky women won the Big Ten Tournament, and then charged into the NCAA Tournament. Wearing orange for cancer awareness, they beat three teams, including top-seeded Virginia to advance to the Elite Eight.
The men went into their NCAA Tournament unseeded, and proceeded to score six straight upsets, all on the road. They had different heroes every match. They traveled more than 10,000 miles and 21 days on the road. In front of a hostile crowd, they won Washington’s first national soccer championship.
