Mariners Postseason Magic while Raleigh Sets Records
They already were rolling when the regular season ended. The M’s won 17 of their final 18 games to earn their first division title in 24 years. Cal Raleigh had hit 60 homers, most by a catcher in major league history, and they had added sluggers Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez. They beat Detroit in a division series that included an epic 15-inning game, with the crowd at T-Mobile Park standing and yelling all the way.
The ALCS against Toronto went the full seven games, and the M’s had the lead for most of the finale. They finished eight outs short, trying for the first World Series in their 48-year history.
