Kasey Keller was an Olympia native who was the best American soccer goalkeeper for decades. He was an All-American at the University of Portland and winner of the Silver Ball at the 1989 FIFA under-20 World Cup. He played in the English Premier League. He was named U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year an unprecedented three times – in 1997, 1999 and 2005. He signed with the Major Soccer League expansion team Seattle Sounders FC in 2008 and immediately began setting records. In his final season, at age 41, he was named to the MLS Best XI and Goalkeeper of the Year. He drew a record 64,000 for his final home game, a fitting tribute for a true legend.
