Butch T. Cougar
Butch T. Cougar is described as a year-round, high-energy presence, participating in over 300 events annually, including both home and away games as well as various community appearances, fundraisers, weddings and more. No other mascot has the attitude, respect, and ferocity that Butch brings to the court. Even when he is interacting with a neutral crowd not from the Northwest, Butch is able to somehow steal the spotlight. Butch comes out to play with you!
Known for creating excitement, Butch zipped on a custom ATV, performed skits during games, and brought students in on the fun. Butch’s role in welcoming fans of all ages was felt as kids shared drawings and participated in impromptu games of tic-tac-toe or playful sword fights involving a straw and Butch’s tail.
In 2025, Butch helped launch the “My Paws My Cause” initiative in partnership with the “My Hand My Cause” program, becoming the first collegiate mascot to do so. Butch’s yearly event Butch’s Bash at the holidays, was a highlight in 2025 - bringing WSU student-athletes and local kids together for food and fun.
