Bryan Woo
In his third Major League season the 25-year-old right-hander worked his way up the Mariners’ pitching rotation and established himself as the team’s ace. He regularly overpowered batters.
- Named an American League All-Star
- Earned spot on All-Major League Baseball second team.
- Set career highs in victories in a season and strikeouts in a game
- Finished fifth in AL Cy Young voting
At the start of the season Woo was listed as no better than fourth in the Mariners’ rock-solid rotation. He pitched at least six innings in his first 25 starts, a franchise record, and allowed no more than two walks, the longest stretch by anyone to start a season since 1905. By the time a pectoral injury ended his season in mid-September, he had topped all Mariners starters in wins, earned run average, strikeouts, and innings pitched.
