Congratulations to the 2011 Sports Stars of the Year! On January 25, 2012 around 1,200 athletes, coaches, media, fans and others in the community came out to Benaroya Hall to celebrate the biggest night in Washington sports. A local sports tradition, the 77th Annual Sports Star of the Year, presented by ROOT SPORTS™ was packed with sports luminaries from the past and present.

At the 77th Annual Sports Star of the Year, presented by ROOT SPORTS™, awards were given to individuals who have had a significant impact in our community. Recipients are chosen by the Sports Star Committee.
| Keith Jackson Award |  | Bob Robertson - Washington State University Still going strong at age 82, Bob Robertson has been the voice of Cougar football for 44 years. His sports broadcasting career spans six decades with teams throughout Washington state. |
| Sports Executive of the Year |  | Gary Wright - Sounders FC Gary Wright helped launch two Seattle sports franchises. He was the Seahawks’ Vice President of Administration when he left in 2008 and became the Sounders’ Senior VP of Business Operations. |
Paul Allen Award |  | Detlef Schrempf - Detlef Schrempf Foundation Former Husky and Sonics star Detlef Schrempf and his wife Mari started a foundation in his name in 1996. Since then it has raised more than $11 million for Northwest charities. |
| Royal Brougham Legend Award |  | Bob Houbregs - UW Basketball As a 6-foot-7 hook-shot specialist, Bob Houbregs led the University of Washington to its only Final Four appearance in 1953 and was named college basketball’s national player of the year. |
Seattle Children's Inspirational Youth Award |  | Jake Finkbonner Ferndale’s Jake Finkbonner nearly died when he was 5, his face ravaged by flesh-eating bacteria. Now 11, after years of recovery, his indomitable spirit is an inspiration to all. |
Sports Story of the Year |  | With the help of the online vote, the Eastern Washington Eagles won the 2011 Sports Story of the Year. |
